When I first flipped through the pages of Flower Gnomigurumi, I felt like I had stumbled into a magical garden. There’s a bloom for every month filled with personality in the form of the cutest little gnomes.
From daisies to chrysanthemums, each design is more charming than the last. And to give you a peek into this whimsical world, I’m sharing the pattern for the Holly Gnome, a festive and cozy companion inspired by December’s birth flower.

About Flower Gnomigurumi by Madelenon
Flower Gnomigurumi is a beautiful collection of 12 darling gnome patterns, each modeled after a month’s signature flower. With full-color photos, a clear materials list, and step-by-step instructions, it’s perfect for crocheters of all levels looking to craft seasonal, gift-worthy amigurumis.
The book is written by Soledad Adriana del Pilar Iglesias Silva (@handmadelenon), an Argentinian crochet designer and the creative mind behind Madelenón Crochet Design, named in honor of her grandmother. Soledad learned to crochet as a child from her mother, but truly fell in love with amigurumi while expecting her third child. Since then, she’s designed dozens of adorable toys and figures that have brought joy to makers all over the world.

Holly Gnome Free Crochet Pattern
Berries (make 5)
Rnd 1: With Cardinal, work 6 sc in a magic ring—6 sts.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st—12 sts.
Rnds 3–5: Sc in each st.
Stuff the berry.
Rnd 6: *Sc2tog; repeat from * 5 more times—6 sts remain.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

With Amazon, ch 19 and mark the last ch.

With Caramel, pull up a loop in BL in st at the center back of Rnd 29 of the hat.
Rnd 1: BL sc in each st—60 sts.
Rnd 2: *Sc in the next 8 sts, sc2tog; repeat from * 5 more times—54 sts remain.
Rnd 3: *Sc in the next 7 sts, sc2tog; repeat from * 5 more times—48 sts remain.
Rnds 4–7: Sc in each st.
Change to Cardinal.
Rnds 8–11: Sc in each st.
Rnd 12: *Sc in the next 7 sts, 2 sc in the next st; repeat from * 5 more times—54 sts.
Rnds 13–16: Sc in each st.
Place a removable marker in the loop and hold the piece with the marker at the center of the back.
Place safety eyes or embroider the eyes between Rnds 3 and 4 of the head, 10 sts apart.
Embroider the cheeks with Cotton Candy.
Rnd 17: Place the loop back on the crochet hook and continue with Cardinal, *sc in the next 8 sts, 2 sc in the next st; repeat from * 5 more times—60 sts.
Rnds 18–20: Sc in each st.
Rnd 21: *FL sc in the next 9 sts, 2 FL sc in the next st; repeat from * 5 more times—66 sts.

Bottom
With Caramel, pull up a loop BL of any st of Rnd 20 of the robe.
Rnd 21: *BL sc in the next 8 sts, BL sc2tog; repeat from * 5 more times—54 sts remain.
Rnd 22: *Sc in the next 7 sts, sc2tog; repeat from * 5 more times—48 sts remain.
Rnd 23: *Sc in the next 4 sts, sc2tog; repeat from * 7 more times—40 sts remain.
Rnd 24: *Sc in the next 3 sts, sc2tog; repeat from * 7 more times—32 sts remain.
Rnd 25: *Sc in the next 2 sts, sc2tog; repeat from * 7 more times—24 sts remain.
Stuff the body.
Rnd 26: *Sc in the next st, sc2tog; repeat from * 7 more times—16 sts remain.

Fasten off and leave a yarn tail. Thread the yarn tail into the tapestry needle, weave the yarn tail through the front loop of each remaining stitch, and pull it tight to close. Weave in the yarn end.
Arms (make 2)
Rnd 1: With Caramel, work 6 sc in a magic ring— 6 sts.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st—12 sts.
Rnds 3–4: Sc in each st.
Change to Cardinal.
Rnds 5–12: Sc in each st.
Lightly stuff the arm. Flatten the opening of the arm.
Next row: Working through both layers to close the opening, sc in next 5 sts, sl st in the last st. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Nose
Rnd 1: With Caramel, work 6 sc in a magic ring—6 sts.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st—12 sts.
Rnd 3: *Sc in the next st, 2 sc in the next st; repeat from * 5 more times—18 sts.
Rnd 4: Sc in each st.

Time to Put It All Together!
Center one of the leaves on the front of the hat between the eyes at Rnd 29, and sew in place.
Sew the second leaf over the first. Sew the berries in a cluster on top of the leaves.
Center the beard between the eyes at Rnd 6 of the head, and sew in place.
Stuff the nose and center it between the eyes between Rnd 3 of the head and Rnd 14 of the beard, and sew in place.
Sew the arms to the sides of the robe on Rnd 8, with 22 sts between them at the back.
Sew the feet at Rnd 21 at the front of the body, with 6 sts between them.
My Review of the Flower Gnomigurumi Book
Flower Gnomigurumi by Soledad Adriana del Pilar Iglesias Silva is a sweet collection og twelve gnome patterns, each inspired by a month’s birth flower. The book is packed with step-by-step photos that walk you through every stage, making it very beginner-friendly. I was especially impressed by the amount of visual guidance; it really helps clarify how each piece should look as you go.
I haven’t made the Holly Gnome myself, but I’m sharing the pull pattern here on the blog (with permission) so you can preview the author’s writing style. Although it’s written differently from how I usually structure my patterns, it remains clear and easy to follow. The book also includes a visual stitch guide, which is super handy for beginners.
While the patterns themselves aren’t technically difficult, they do involve many small steps and a fair amount of sewing. This isn’t a “whip it up in an hour” kind of project. It’s more for those who enjoy the process and have the patience to bring all the pieces together. I’d recommend this book to crocheters who are already comfortable wtih amigurumi basics and are ready to take on slightly more involved projects that offer a beautiful finished result.
