Wisteria vines are known for their dreamy, cascading blooms—but crocheting them means you get to enjoy that beauty year-round. This crochet wisteria garland is surprisingly simple, endlessly customizable, and makes a gorgeous handmade statement whether you hang it on a wall, weave it into a tablescape, or drape it across a mantel.
Each crochet wisteria strand begins with a long foundation chain. Flower petals are then worked directly into the chain, and as you crochet, the strand naturally starts to curl, creating the illusion of cascading layers of delicate blooms. It’s a simple yet clever construction technique, similar to how I designed my crochet plumeria lei.

Crochet Wisteria Flowers
Using a 4.0 mm crochet hook…
Step 1: Ch 60-80
Step 2: Slst into 4th ch from the hook. [Ch 3, slst into the next ch] x repeat 3-6 times
Step 3: [Ch 4, slst into the next ch] x repeat 5-9 times
Step 4: [Ch 5, slst into the next ch, ch 5, slst into the same ch] x repeat until desired length
Step 5: [Ch 6, slst into the next ch, ch 6, slst into the same ch] x repeat until desired length
Step 6: [Ch 7, slst into the next ch, ch 7, slst into the same ch] x repeat 4-5 times
Step 7: [Ch 7, sc into the next ch, ch 7, sc into the same ch] x repeat until desired length, every now and then, you can add an extra ch 7 and sc into the same chain (meaning you go into the same chain 3 times) to make it curl a little bit more.
Optional
Step 8: [Ch 8, sc into the next ch, ch 8, sc into the same ch] x repeat until the end of the foundation chain. Again, add some extra chain 8 and sc into the same chain (going into the same chain 3 times) to try to make the chain curl a bit more if you notice some unsightly gaps between the layers of petals.

To hang up my crochet wisteria garland, I used Jimmy Hooks, which is my go-to solution for wall decor. I’ve been using them for years (not sponsored, just genuinely obsessed!) because they’re strong, reusable, and best of all, they don’t damage my walls.
I love that I can reposition them as often as I like, which means I can switch up my seasonal decorations without leaving behind holes or sticky residue. I’ve used them for everything from my crochet Christmas tree to my floral wire mouse ears, and even my crochet growth chart. They’re a total game-changer for anyone who loves decorating their walls.
For this garland, I hung some of the wisteria flowers directly on the hooks. In other spots where I didn’t use hooks, I simply looped the petals onto the leaves of the foliage itself. It worked beautifully and gave the garland a more organic, draped look, as if it were naturally growing along the wall.

Why I Made This
I’ve always had a soft spot for floral crochet projects, and more recently, I’ve been drawn to the beauty of wisteria. I love the way it cascades so effortlessly, like it’s growing in slow-motion poetry. There’s something so delicate and enchanting about it, like it belongs in a fairytale garden or hanging above the doorway of a cozy cottage.

This is one of those projects that felt meditative to make. It’s repetitive enough to get lost in, but still exciting as I watched the crochet flowers come together one by one. Now that it’s hanging in my space, it’s like having a little piece of a fairytale garden indoors.
